  • Retinal neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease (PD) is debated.
  • Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT) can assess retinal layers.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare macular ganglion cell complex (mGCC) and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness in PD patients versus controls.
  • To investigate the relationship between retinal thickness and PD severity.

Main Methods:

  • SD-OCT was used to measure pRNFL and mGCC in 30 PD patients, 60 glaucoma patients, and 40 healthy controls.
  • Correlation analyses examined associations between retinal thickness and PD severity (MDS-UPDRS), disease duration, dopamine dose, and olfactory function.
