Endogenous androgens are crucial for lung development in both sexes. Excess androgens harm lung development, especially when combined with hyperoxia, a model for bronchopulmonary dysplasia.

- Endogenous estrogens showed no significant impact on lung development in this window; exogenous estrogens had minor effects.
