Summary

Coffee and chewing gum did not significantly increase the excretion rate of colon capsules in this study. Further research is needed to explore the potential of chewing gum for improving colon capsule endoscopy preparation.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate if consuming coffee or chewing gum enhances the excretion rate of the colon capsule.
  • To assess the impact of adjuncts on CCE success in patients with a positive fecal occult blood test.

  • A single-center, randomized controlled trial included 186 participants with a positive fecal occult blood test.
  • Participants received standard bowel preparation with either instant coffee, chewing gum, or no intervention.
