Pre-eclampsia is linked to abnormal Human Leukocyte Antigen - Antigen D Related (HLA-DR) expression in placental syncytiotrophoblast and syncytiotrophoblast-derived extracellular vesicles (STEVs). This aberrant HLA-DR expression was not found in normal pregnancies, suggesting a potential role in pre-eclampsia pathogenesis.
