Summary

Histopathology training in Nigeria suffers from insufficient surgical material exposure. Implementing a regional laboratory system can enhance training quality and expertise in surgical pathology.

Nigerian histopathology practice faces challenges including poor funding and inadequate surgical pathology material exposure.
Despite an increase in training centers and interested graduates, busiest labs handle only 2200-5500 samples annually, limiting pathologist experience.

To critically examine factors affecting histopathology practice and training in Nigeria.
To propose practical solutions for advancing the discipline.
