Trabeculectomy surgery causes early postoperative changes in anterior segment parameters, which return to baseline levels by one month and remain stable. This study tracked anterior chamber angle, depth, volume, and corneal thickness post-surgery.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Glaucoma Surgery
- Anterior Segment Imaging
Background:
- Trabeculectomy is a common surgical procedure for glaucoma.
- Understanding postoperative changes in anterior segment parameters is crucial for patient management.
- Scheimpflug imaging offers detailed analysis of ocular structures.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate postoperative changes in anterior segment parameters after trabeculectomy.
- To assess the dynamics of anterior chamber angle, depth, volume, and central corneal thickness.
- To determine the timeline for normalization of these parameters post-surgery.
Main Methods:
- Prospective study of 38 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma undergoing trabeculectomy.
- Scheimpflug imaging used for measurements.
- Anterior segment parameters (ACA, ACD, ACV, CCT) measured preoperatively and at 1 week, 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively.
Main Results:
- Significant postoperative changes observed in ACA, ACD, ACV, and CCT (P<0.001).
- Early postoperative week showed decreased ACA, ACD, ACV, and increased CCT.
- Parameters normalized by 1 month post-surgery and remained stable thereafter.
Conclusions:
- Anterior segment parameters fluctuate in the early period after trabeculectomy.
- These parameters return to baseline levels approximately one month after surgery.
- The observed changes are transient, with stability achieved post-one month.
