Background:

The Blue Whale Challenge is a dangerous online dare game with potentially fatal consequences.
Fatalities linked to the game have been reported globally, including in India.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the awareness and understanding of medical professionals regarding online challenges.
To evaluate the preparedness of first responders in the medical field to address issues related to online challenges.

Main Methods:

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted.
Fifty-four medical professionals (psychiatry, clinical psychology, pediatrics) were interviewed using semi-structured surveys.
Descriptive statistics were employed for data analysis.

Main Results:

65% of participants had heard of the Blue Whale Challenge but lacked detailed knowledge.
Only 26% were aware of the game's harmful nature, and 22% could identify warning signs in children.
No practitioners reported encountering cases related to this online challenge during the study period.

Conclusions:

The medical community shows a deficit in knowledge regarding emerging online phenomena.
Enhanced awareness and updated knowledge are crucial for effectively managing children involved in online challenges.
Guidelines are proposed to identify vulnerable populations susceptible to such online risks.
