Relationship between enteric pathogens and acute gastroenteritis disease severity: a prospective cohort study

Rotavirus and Salmonella were linked to severe acute gastroenteritis in children. Viral pathogens were most common, but Salmonella was the only bacterium associated with severe illness in this study.
