Community Based Intervention01:30

Community Based Intervention

484
Community-based interventions in mental health represent a paradigm shift from institution-centered care to treatments embedded within the fabric of local communities. By prioritizing inclusion and leveraging existing societal structures, this approach fosters a supportive environment conducive to addressing mental health challenges while promoting individual dignity and agency.

Base-Promoted α-Halogenation of Aldehydes and Ketones00:51

Base-Promoted α-Halogenation of Aldehydes and Ketones

4.2K
α-Halogenation of aldehydes and ketones is a reaction involving the substitution of α hydrogens with halogens in the presence of a base.  The reaction begins with the abstraction of  α hydrogen by the base to produce a nucleophilic enolate ion. This intermediate undergoes a subsequent nucleophilic substitution with the halogen to produce a monohalogenated carbonyl compound. If the starting substrate has more than one α hydrogen, it is difficult to stop the reaction...

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions

3.9K
Nursing interventions are chosen as part of the planning process to achieve patient outcomes. Once nursing diagnoses are determined, the goals and outcomes are specified, then the nursing interventions are selected and individualized according to the patient's situation.
A nursing intervention is a treatment or action based on scientific concepts and knowledge from the nursing, behavioral, and physical sciences. Identifying and prioritizing nursing interventions based on the desired outcome...

The Eukaryotic Promoter Region02:40

The Eukaryotic Promoter Region

18.9K
The eukaryotic promoter region is a segment of DNA located upstream of a gene. It contains an RNA polymerase binding site, a transcription start site, and several cis-regulatory sequences.  The proximal promoter region is located in the vicinity of the gene and has cis-regulatory sequences and the core promoter. The core promoter is the binding site for RNA polymerase and is usually located between -35 and +35 nucleotides from the transcription start site. The distal promoter regions are...

Incentive Theory: Pull Theory of Motivation

944
Incentive theory, or the "pull theory" of motivation, suggests that external rewards primarily drive behavior. Individuals are motivated to engage in activities when they anticipate a desirable outcome. This is why people often work hard for promotions or study intensively to achieve high grades. These incentives can be tangible, physical rewards such as money or promotions, or intangible, non-physical rewards like praise and social recognition.
The theory differentiates between...

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions01:29

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions

3.4K
Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Instead, consider the following six essential factors when choosing interventions:

    Summary

Financial incentives significantly boosted action plan completion in a walking intervention for university employees. This engagement persisted even after incentives were removed, suggesting long-term behavioral change potential.

    Area of Science:

    • Behavioral Science
    • Health Psychology
    • Intervention Studies

    Background:

    • Inactive office-based employees often struggle with physical activity.
    • Web-based interventions offer scalable solutions for promoting walking.
    • Self-regulatory strategies like action planning are key to behavior change.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of financial incentives on self-regulatory behavior (action planning) in a walking intervention.
    • To assess the effectiveness of incentives in promoting engagement among inactive university employees.
    • To determine if incentive-driven engagement in action planning influences daily step counts.

    Main Methods:

    • An 11-week Web-based walking intervention was employed.
    • Participants were randomized into a control group (intervention only) or an incentive group (intervention plus weekly gift cards for action plan completion).
    • Action plan completion and daily steps were measured before, during, and after the 4-week incentive period, with Cohen's d and RM-ANOVA used for analysis.

    Main Results:

    • A large effect size (d = 1.01) was observed for action plan completion in the incentive group, which remained high (d = 1.0) post-incentive.
    • The incentive group showed greater daily steps during the post-incentive period (small effect size; d = 0.28).
    • Incentives effectively promoted engagement in the self-regulatory strategy of action planning.

    Conclusions:

    • Financial incentives are effective in driving engagement with self-regulatory strategies like action planning.
    • The positive effects on action planning persisted after incentive withdrawal.
    • Further research is needed to optimize incentive structures and timing for sustained engagement.
