Tissue-specific endothelial cells (ECs) co-express lineage markers of surrounding cells. Genetic deletion of fetal liver kinase-1 (Flk1) in lung epithelium suppressed pulmonary ECs, suggesting shared progenitors for ECs and tissue cells.
