Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Radiology
  • Neuroimaging

Background:

  • Basal ganglia lesions can manifest with diverse neurological symptoms.
  • Accurate characterization of brain lesions is crucial for diagnosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report imaging findings in the basal ganglia.
  • To describe the characteristics of lesions in the putamen, caudate nucleus, and globus pallidum.

Main Methods:

  • Computed tomography (CT) of the brain was performed.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) including T1-weighted, T2-weighted, and T2*-weighted sequences was utilized.

Main Results:

  • CT scans showed no abnormalities.
  • MRI revealed T1 hyperintensity and T2* hypointensity in the left putamen, caudate nucleus, and globus pallidum.
  • The internal capsule remained unaffected.

Conclusions:

  • MRI detected specific signal abnormalities in the left basal ganglia.
  • These findings suggest potential pathology within the putamen, caudate nucleus, and globus pallidum.
