Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess future schoolteachers' basic life support (BLS) knowledge and willingness to integrate BLS content into school curricula.
  • To determine the learning effect of a brief, feedback-supported BLS hands-on training session.

Main Methods:

  • A survey assessed knowledge and willingness among 98 university students in Educational Sciences and Sports.
  • A brief theoretical and hands-on training session was conducted with a 2/10 instructor/participant ratio.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) quality, including chest compressions (CC) and ventilation, was measured during 1-minute tests.

Main Results:

  • 58% knew CPR, 62% knew the compression/ventilation ratio, but only 25% knew CC quality standards.
  • Automated external defibrillator (AED) awareness was high (88%), with willingness to use increasing from 70% to 98% post-training.
  • Nearly half of CCs were at an adequate rate; men performed deeper compressions, while women had better chest recoil.

Conclusions:

  • Brief, feedback-supported hands-on training significantly improves future teachers' CPR knowledge, confidence, and skills.
  • Implementing BLS training in university curricula for teachers is recommended to promote effective BLS education for schoolchildren.
