Summary

Transient ST-segment elevation during cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation is a rare event. This case highlights the importance of prompt recognition and management of this cardiac complication during pulmonary vein isolation.

  • Cryoballoon ablation is a common treatment for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF).

  • ST-segment elevation in anterolateral leads occurred during left superior pulmonary vein cryoablation.
  • Coronary angiography revealed slow flow in the left anterior descending artery, without obstructive lesions.

Findings:

  • The ST-segment elevation resolved spontaneously within 14 minutes.
  • Successful pulmonary vein isolation was achieved without repeating cryoapplication in the affected vein.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the need for vigilance during cryoballoon ablation for PAF.
  • Understanding transient ST-segment elevation aids in appropriate patient management and procedural safety.
