Lactation Duration and Long-Term Thyroid Function: A Study among Women with Gestational Diabetes

Longer lactation duration is linked to higher free triiodothyronine (fT3) levels and fT3:fT4 ratio years postpartum. This association is more pronounced in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and a single pregnancy.

- The findings suggest a potential protective effect of lactation on thyroid function in this high-risk group.
- The association was particularly evident in women with a single lifetime pregnancy, suggesting parity as a potential modifier.
