Isolation of Cancer Stem Cells From Human Prostate Cancer Samples
Published on: March 14, 2014
Abstract:
A recent study finds that treatment-emergent small-cell neuroendocrine prostate cancer occurs in 17% of patients with the metastatic, castration-resistant form of the disease. This small-cell variety of prostate cancer shows a distinct gene expression signature and reduces patients' survival by nearly 20%.
Insights
A new study reveals that 17% of men with metastatic, castration-resistant prostate cancer develop a small-cell neuroendocrine variant. This aggressive form significantly impacts survival rates.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Genetics
- Urology
Background:
- Metastatic, castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) poses a significant clinical challenge.
- Neuroendocrine differentiation is an aggressive subtype of prostate cancer.

Common Names of Aldehydes and Ketones
Common names of aldehydes are derived from the names of their corresponding acid. For instance, the two-carbon aldehyde–acetaldehyde derives its name from the corresponding acid–acetic acid. Similarly, formaldehyde derives its name from formic acid and benzaldehyde from benzoic acid.
Aliphatic ketones are named by suffixing the word “ketone” to the...
