Dimensional Analysis03:40

Dimensional Analysis

64.9K
Dimensional analysis, also known as the factor label method, is a versatile approach for mathematical operations. The main principle behind this approach is: the units of quantities must be subjected to the same mathematical operations as their associated numbers. This method can be applied to computations ranging from simple unit conversions to more complex and multi-step calculations involving several different quantities and their units.

Reproductive Cloning01:27

Reproductive Cloning

32.8K
Reproductive cloning is the process of producing a genetically identical copy—a clone—of an entire organism. While clones can be produced by splitting an early embryo—similar to what happens naturally with identical twins—cloning of adult animals is usually done by a process called somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT).
Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer
In SCNT, an egg cell is taken from an animal and its nucleus is removed, creating an enucleated egg. Then a somatic...

Area of Science:

  • Veterinary Oncology
  • Canine Pathology

Background:

  • Plasma cell tumors are a type of cancer that can affect dogs.
  • Tonsillar masses are uncommon in dogs and can be challenging to diagnose.

Observation:

  • A 10-year-old greyhound presented with an incidental tonsillar mass.
  • Surgical biopsy revealed an incompletely resected plasma cell tumor.

Findings:

  • No local recurrence or distant metastasis was observed one year post-surgery.
  • The dog remained clinically healthy without signs of the tonsillar plasmacytoma.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the potential for successful management of canine tonsillar plasma cell tumors with surgery alone.
  • Further research is needed to determine the optimal treatment strategies for this rare condition.
