Summary

SecurAcath offers a securement solution for central venous catheters. While StatLock may be more cost-effective for short-term use, SecurAcath proves more economical for medium- and long-term catheter indwell times.

Background:

Central venous catheters (CVCs) are crucial for patient therapy and monitoring.
Effective securement of CVCs is essential to prevent dislodgement.
SecurAcath is a novel device for CVC securement.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the clinical and economic evidence for the SecurAcath device.
To compare SecurAcath against alternative catheter securement methods.
To inform National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance on CVC securement.

Main Methods:

Systematic review and meta-analysis of existing evidence.
Independent critique of manufacturer-submitted clinical and economic data.
Development and revision of a cost-effectiveness economic model.

Main Results:

Limited comparative evidence initially identified; one unpublished RCT showed potential non-inferiority to StatLock.
