Background:

Self-regulated learning is crucial for effective language acquisition.
Existing instruments may not fully capture the multifaceted nature of language learning strategies.

Purpose of the Study:

To validate a Self-Regulated Foreign Language Learning Strategy Questionnaire.
To assess the factor structure and reliability of the questionnaire.

Main Methods:

Confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) using structural equation modelling (SEM).
Online administration of the questionnaire to 2223 lower secondary school children.

Main Results:

A five-factor correlated model was validated, including metacognitive, cognitive, meta-affective, meta-sociocultural-interactive, and sociocultural-interactive factors.
The affective factor was not supported by the analysis.
Reliability and convergent validity analyses confirmed the consistency and relationships between the factors.

Conclusions:

The validated questionnaire effectively measures key dimensions of self-regulated language learning strategies.
Language learning strategy use is complex, involving cognitive, affective, and sociocultural elements with 'meta' approaches.
Further research is needed to refine the measurement of affective factors in language learning strategy use.
