Location and Orientation of the Heart01:13

Location and Orientation of the Heart

10.4K
The human heart, despite its modest size and weight, is an organ of remarkable strength and endurance. Roughly the size of a fist, the heart weighs between 250 and 350 grams and is nestled within the mediastinum, the medial cavity of the thorax. It extends obliquely for about 12 to 14 cm, resting on the superior surface of the diaphragm. The heart is positioned anterior to the vertebral column and posterior to the sternum, with two-thirds of its mass lying to the left of the midsternal line.

Characteristics of Practical Op Amps01:16

Characteristics of Practical Op Amps

870
A difference amplifier, a crucial component in numerous electronic devices, ideally amplifies only the difference-mode signal, which is the difference between two input signals. However, in practical circuits, the output voltage depends on both the differential gain and the common-mode gain.
The ratio of differential gain to the common-mode gain is defined as the common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR). This ratio quantifies the ability of operational amplifiers (op-amps) to reject common-mode...

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice01:30

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice

17.5K
Theories play an essential role in organizing patient care. Theories refer to a proposed or followed belief, policy, or procedure that is the basis for action. Nursing theories are knowledge-based concepts that guide nurses' actions, influence nursing education and practice, and allow nurses to care for their patients.
Theories provide a perspective to assess patients' conditions and organize data and methods. They also assist in analyzing and interpreting information. They represent a...

Equivalent Circuits for Practical Transformers01:28

Equivalent Circuits for Practical Transformers

1.4K
The practical equivalent circuits of single-phase two-winding transformers exhibit significant deviations from their idealized versions due to the inherent properties of winding resistance and finite core permeability. These properties result in real and reactive power losses, affecting the transformer's performance. Understanding these deviations is crucial for designing more efficient transformers.
In a practical transformer, each winding exhibits resistance and leakage reactance. The...

Methods of Documentation I: Source-Oriented Records

1.7K
Source-oriented records, or SOR, are medical record-keeping organized by the data source. The SOR system was first developed in the mid-1900s to organize the growing patient data in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
In an SOR, each discipline involved in patient care maintains a separate medical record section. This record-keeping method enables easy tracking of patient progress and ensures healthcare staff have access to up-to-date information.

Quantum Numbers02:43

Quantum Numbers

50.8K
It is said that the energy of an electron in an atom is quantized; that is, it can be equal only to certain specific values and can jump from one energy level to another but not transition smoothly or stay between these levels.

Summary

Bedside handover, a crucial nursing practice, faces privacy concerns. However, this study finds that privacy issues should not prevent bedside handovers, as solutions exist or concerns may mask other challenges.

Area of Science:

  • Nursing
  • Healthcare Ethics
  • Patient Privacy

Background:

  • Bedside handover is increasingly adopted in nursing practice.
  • Nurses report significant barriers to bedside handover implementation.
  • Patient privacy concerns are frequently cited as a major obstacle.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To critically examine the concept of patient privacy during bedside nursing handovers.
  • To explore the ethical and legal dimensions of privacy in this context.
  • To provide a practice-oriented resolution to the privacy dilemma in bedside handovers.

Main Methods:

  • A narrative review of international literature on patient privacy during handovers.
  • Qualitative data collection through observations.
  • Interviews with both nurses and patients to gather diverse perspectives.

Main Results:

  • Privacy concerns can be addressed with specific safeguarding measures during bedside handovers.
  • In some instances, privacy concerns may be used to mask professional uncertainty or reluctance towards patient involvement.
  • The study identified two distinct scenarios regarding privacy during bedside handovers.

Conclusions:

  • A potential breach of patient privacy, whether valid or not, should not be a reason to discontinue bedside handovers.
  • Strategies can be implemented to mitigate privacy risks effectively.
  • Addressing the root causes of perceived privacy issues is essential for successful bedside handover implementation.
