Electroacupuncture for Postoperative Urinary Retention: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Electroacupuncture (EA) shows statistically significant efficacy in treating postoperative urinary retention (PUR) in women, improving therapeutic effects and urinary function. However, the evidence quality is low, necessitating further large-scale randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

- Comparisons were made against physical exercise, medication, or no treatment.
Conclusions:
- Electroacupuncture demonstrates statistically significant efficacy and safety for key outcomes in women with postoperative urinary retention.
- The current evidence level for most outcomes is very low to low.
- There is a need for more large-scale, long-term RCTs with rigorous methodological quality to confirm findings.
