Cytotoxic T Cells-mediated Immune Response

7.5K
Cytotoxic T cells are a vital component of the immune system. They have the remarkable ability to identify and target antigens on infected or abnormal cells. These antigens often originate from intracellular pathogens such as viruses or abnormal proteins cancer cells produce.
Immunological surveillance is the ability of immune cells to monitor and eliminate infected cells with intracellular pathogens, neoplastically transformed cells, and cells with non-self antigens. Cytotoxic T cells and NK...

Methods of Documentation V: CBE

1.4K
Charting by Exception, or CBE, is a method of documentation used in healthcare, particularly in nursing, that focuses on documenting only significant or abnormal findings rather than recording every detail. This approach aims to streamline the documentation process, improve efficiency, and ensure that healthcare providers can quickly identify deviations from normalcy in patient assessments.
In CBE, healthcare professionals establish predefined standards of practice that define what constitutes...

Summary

A patient experienced severe thrombocytopenia, a dangerous drop in platelets, after receiving vancomycin for a knee infection. Discontinuing the antibiotic led to rapid platelet recovery, suggesting vancomycin-induced immune thrombocytopenia.

  • Infectious Diseases
  • Hematology
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) can cause prosthetic joint infections.
  • Vancomycin is a common antibiotic used for Gram-positive bacterial infections, including hardware infections.
