    Summary

    Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome (MCLS) patients show increased polyclonal B cell activation, indicated by elevated immunoglobulin M and anti-dinitrophenyl antibodies. These findings suggest a role for B cell activation in MCLS pathogenesis.

    Background:

    • Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome (MCLS), also known as Kawasaki disease, is an acute febrile illness affecting young children.
    • The etiology of MCLS remains unclear, with various infectious agents proposed.
    • Polyclonal B cell activation is a potential contributor to the immunopathology of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the presence and extent of polyclonal B cell activation in patients with MCLS.
    • To explore the association between specific antibody levels and MCLS.
    • To evaluate serum immunoglobulin M and anti-dinitrophenyl antibody levels as markers of B cell activation in MCLS.

    Main Methods:

    • Immunoserological studies were conducted on 39 MCLS patients and age-matched healthy controls.

    • Elevated IgM and anti-DNP antibody levels serve as indicators of this B cell activation in MCLS.
    • Further research is warranted to elucidate the precise mechanisms and implications of B cell activation in MCLS.
