Background:

  • Pusher behavior is a common and disabling condition following stroke.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the effectiveness of RAGT versus non-robotic physiotherapy (nR-PT) in reducing pusher behavior.
  • To evaluate the persistence of treatment effects at a 2-week follow-up.

Main Methods:

  • A single-blind, randomized controlled trial was conducted.
  • Participants with subacute stroke and pusher behavior were randomized to RAGT or nR-PT.
  • Pusher behavior was assessed using the Scale for Contraversive Pushing (SCP) and Burke Lateropulsion Scale.

Main Results:

  • RAGT demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in pusher behavior compared to nR-PT at both post-intervention and follow-up assessments.
  • A notable proportion of participants in the RAGT group showed complete cessation of pusher behavior.
  • Improvements in mobility and verticality perception were also observed with RAGT.

  • Two weeks of RAGT appears to be an effective and persistent treatment for reducing pusher behavior in stroke survivors.
  • RAGT may help recalibrate the sense of verticality, a key factor in pusher behavior.
  • Further research is warranted to explore the full potential of RAGT for improving verticality perception and overall function.
