Summary

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the safety and efficacy of Mohs micrographic surgery for invasive melanoma.
  • To determine local recurrence, metastasis, and survival rates following MMS treatment.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective cohort study analyzed 123 melanomas treated with MMS and MART-1 immunostain.
  • Outcomes including local recurrence, metastasis, and survival rates were compared to historical controls.

Main Results:

  • The study included 123 patients (63% male, mean age 66.48 years) with a mean follow-up of 3.49 years.
  • A low local recurrence rate of 1.63% was observed.
  • Overall survival was 95.12% and disease-specific survival was 100%.

Conclusions:

  • Mohs micrographic surgery demonstrates effectiveness in treating invasive melanoma.
  • Low recurrence rates and high survival rates support MMS as a viable treatment option.
