    Background:

    • Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral cyclosporine in treating severe plaque psoriasis.
    • To investigate the impact of cyclosporine on inflammatory markers in psoriatic lesions.

    Main Methods:

    • A double-blind, randomized trial involving 21 patients with severe plaque psoriasis.
    • Patients received either oral cyclosporine (14 mg/kg/d) or a vehicle for four weeks.
    • Skin response, mitotic figures, leukotriene B4 levels, and immune cell infiltrates were assessed.

    • Cyclosporine represents a potentially significant advance in psoriasis treatment, pending determination of a favorable long-term efficacy-side effect profile.
