This study developed standardized scoring tables for the Measurement and Treatment Research to Improve Cognition in Schizophrenia (MATRICS) Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) in healthy adolescents aged 11-19. These tables provide T scores and percentile ranks by age and sex for improved cognitive assessment.
Area of Science:
- Neuroscience
- Developmental Psychology
- Psychometrics
Background:
- Cognitive assessment in adolescents requires age- and sex-specific normative data.
- The Measurement and Treatment Research to Improve Cognition in Schizophrenia (MATRICS) Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) is a widely used tool for cognitive evaluation.
- Standardized scoring for the MCCB in healthy adolescents is lacking.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop standardized scores and scoring tables for the MCCB in healthy adolescents aged 11–19 years.
- To provide T scores and percentile ranks stratified by age and sex.
- To facilitate accurate interpretation of cognitive test performance in adolescent populations.
Main Methods:
- A multisite study included 502 healthy participants aged 11–19 years.
- Regression analyses were used to calculate age- and sex-specific predicted means for MCCB tests.
- Standardized scoring tables were created based on regression-predicted distributions.
Main Results:
- Significant positive age effects were observed across most MCCB tests.
- Females outperformed males in measures of processing speed and visual learning (BACS Symbol Coding, BVMT-R).
- Males outperformed females in reasoning and problem-solving (NAB Mazes).
Conclusions:
- Accessible, standardized normative data for adolescent MCCB performance have been established.
- The developed scoring tables will aid in the accurate assessment of cognitive function in adolescents.
- This resource supports research and clinical applications involving adolescent cognition.
