Sampling Plans01:23

Sampling Plans

989
Sampling is a crucial step in analytical chemistry, allowing researchers to collect representative data from a large population. Common sampling methods include random, judgmental, systematic, stratified, and cluster sampling.
Random sampling is a method where each member of the population has an equal chance of being selected for the sample. It involves selecting individuals randomly, often using random number generators or lottery-type methods. For example, when analyzing the properties of a...

Planning Nursing Care I01:21

Planning Nursing Care I

5.9K
The planning phase of the nursing process helps nurses set priorities, outline patient-centered goals and expected outcomes, and tailor nursing interventions to align with the aligned care plan. Through the planning phase, the nurse applies critical thinking skills to align and develop interventions according to the patient's needs. It provides continuity of care allowing patients to receive the maximum benefit from treatment. It serves as a pilot plan for allocating individual staff to a...

Planning Nursing Care II

3.8K
A nursing care plan can present in two forms: informal and formal. Informal is a care plan for the individual use of the nurse and goals they wish to accomplish during their shift. Informal care plans are not included in the patient chart. A formal nursing care plan is a written or computerized guide that organizes patient care. It is further subdivided into two: standardized and individualized care plans. Standardized care plans are pre-populated care plans for specific patient populations,...

Role of Communication in the Nursing Process II: Planning and Implementation

2.7K
Several factors are considered while creating a patient's care plan. Motivation is a factor in improving communication, and patients often require encouragement to try different approaches involving significant change. It is essential to involve the patient and family in decisions about the plan of care to determine whether the suggested methods are acceptable. Consider meeting critical comfort and safety needs before introducing new communication methods and techniques. Allow adequate time...

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching II: Planning and Implementation

2.1K
Planning for learning involves the development of a teaching plan. Teaching plans are similar to nursing care plans—both follow the steps of the nursing process. Planning in the teaching process involves setting goals and outcomes. Here, goals identify what a patient needs to achieve to understand a healthcare topic better, whereas the outcomes are the action to be performed by the patient to achieve the goal within a timeframe. For example, if the goal is to educate the patient about...

Weak Base Solutions03:21

Weak Base Solutions

25.3K
Some compounds produce hydroxide ions when dissolved by chemically reacting with water molecules. In all cases, these compounds react only partially and so are classified as weak bases. These types of compounds are also abundant in nature and important commodities in various technologies. For example, global production of the weak base ammonia is typically well over 100 metric tons annually, being widely used as an agricultural fertilizer, a raw material for chemical synthesis of other...

Area of Science:

  • Radiation Oncology
  • Medical Physics
  • Cancer Treatment

Background:

  • Prostate cancer treatment planning involves complex optimization processes.
  • Human variability in treatment planning can impact plan quality and consistency.
  • Automated planning tools aim to reduce this variability and improve efficiency.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the extent to which RapidPlan reduces human-caused variability in prostate cancer treatment planning.
  • To assess the impact of RapidPlan on plan quality metrics and inter- and intra-planner variability.

Main Methods:

  • A RapidPlan model was trained on 70 clinical prostate plans.
  • Seven planners with varying experience levels created VMAT plans for 15 patients, with and without RapidPlan assistance.
  • Plans were compared based on target coverage, conformance, OAR sparing, and Plan Quality Metric (PQM) formalism.

Main Results:

  • RapidPlan-assisted plans matched manual plans for target coverage and homogeneity but improved sparing of the rectum and femoral heads.
  • Overall plan quality significantly increased for 8 out of 15 patients.
  • Inter-planner variability for rectum and femoral heads sparing decreased, and overall plan quality variability (IQR of PQM%) was halved.
  • Less experienced planners showed greater quality improvement, and intra-planner variability also reduced.

Conclusions:

  • RapidPlan significantly enhances treatment plan quality and reduces variability in prostate cancer radiotherapy.
  • It serves as a valuable tool for improving the skills of less experienced planners, ensuring more consistent treatment plan quality.
