  • 180 healthy Korean-speaking adults without nasal or voice complaints participated.
  • Measurements included nasometry (nasalance score), acoustic rhinometry (nasal cavity volume), and rhinomanometry (nasal resistance).
  • Age-related changes in these parameters were analyzed.

Main Results:

  • Nasal cavity volume significantly increased with age.
  • Nasal resistance significantly decreased with age.
  • Nasalance scores for nasal and oronasal passages decreased with age, but oral passage scores remained unchanged.

Conclusions:

  • Despite increased nasal cavity volume and patency with age, nasalance scores for nasal consonants decreased.
  • Age-related decreases in nasality may be attributed to factors other than changes in nasal cavity structure or airflow.
