Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition marked by persistent deficits in social communication and interaction alongside restrictive and repetitive behaviors or interests. ASD is sometimes accompanied by intellectual impairment.
These core symptoms manifest differently among individuals, ranging from mild to severe. The disorder's complexity extends beyond its clinical presentation, encompassing a diverse range of biological, cognitive, and sociocultural influences.

To identify factors associated with genetic testing in children diagnosed with ASD.
To understand parental involvement in the decision-making process for genetic testing.
To explore barriers and facilitators to genetic testing in this population.

Main Methods:

Survey data collected from parents of children with ASD.
Statistical analysis to determine associations between variables and genetic testing.
Identification of key factors influencing testing decisions.

Main Results:

Evaluation by a geneticist increased the likelihood of genetic testing by over 39 times.
Physician offers of testing were associated with a 6-fold increase in testing rates.
