Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the roles of lymphocyte homing and apoptosis in the reduction of intestinal IgA+ lymphocytes during acute liver necrosis.
  • To assess the effects of Lymphotoxin-beta receptor (LTβR) pre-treatment on these processes.

Main Methods:

  • Establishment of an acute liver necrosis mouse model.
  • Assessment of intestinal mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule-1 (MAdCAM-1) expression, apoptosis rates, IgA+ cell counts, and secretory IgA (SIgA) levels.

Conclusions:

  • Dysfunctional lymphocyte homing and enterocyte apoptosis contribute to decreased intestinal IgA+ lymphocytes in acute liver necrosis.
  • LTβR pre-treatment partially ameliorates these changes by enhancing MAdCAM-1 expression, not by inhibiting apoptosis.
