    • 120 used healing abutments were divided into three groups: autoclaving only, autoclaving plus air polishing, and autoclaving plus sodium hypochlorite treatment.
    • Contamination was visualized using Phloxine B staining and quantified via microscopy and imaging software.
    • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to assess surface changes.

    Main Results:

    • Autoclaving alone left significant contamination (mean 38.2% surface area).
    • Air polishing reduced contamination to 3.5%–5.4%, while sodium hypochlorite reduced it to 0.3%–1.9%.
    • Sodium hypochlorite was significantly more effective than air polishing; SEM showed no surface alterations.

    Conclusions:

    • Standard autoclaving is inadequate for decontaminating used healing abutments.
    • Additional decontamination methods significantly reduce residual contaminants.
    • Sodium hypochlorite treatment offers superior decontamination efficacy, supporting the reuse of healing abutments.
