Summary

Functional Movement Screen (FMS™) scores in older adults decrease with higher BMI and age, and lower physical activity. The FMS™ effectively identifies movement asymmetries and limitations in this population.

Background:

  • The Functional Movement Screen (FMS™) is widely used to detect functional movement deficits.
  • This study explored FMS™ feasibility in active older adults, assessing asymmetries and relationships with age, physical activity, and BMI.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the feasibility of administering the FMS™ to active older adults.
  • To assess the prevalence of asymmetries identified by the FMS™ in this demographic.
  • To examine the correlation between FMS™ performance and age, BMI, and physical activity levels.

Main Methods:

  • An observational study involving 97 men and women aged 52-83.
  • Participants' Body Mass Index (BMI) and physical activity levels were recorded.

  • Further research is recommended to investigate the link between higher FMS™ scores and reduced fall or injury rates in the elderly.
