Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare LE biomechanics between PD and ND during multidirectional single-leg landings.
  • To analyze kinematic and kinetic variables during landings in lateral, diagonal, and forward jump directions.

Main Methods:

  • Fifteen PD and 15 ND performed single-leg jumps in three directions.
  • Motion capture system collected LE biomechanical data.
  • Kinematic (joint angles, ROM) and kinetic (joint moments, ground reaction force) variables were analyzed.

Main Results:

  • PD demonstrated lower hip and knee flexion and higher ankle plantarflexion at initial contact (IC) compared to ND.
  • PD exhibited significantly higher knee and ankle range of motion (ROM) than ND.
  • Lateral jumps elicited greater hip abduction moment and ankle inversion compared to forward jumps.

Conclusions:

  • PD's extended posture at IC facilitates efficient force dissipation through knee and ankle ROM.
  • Jump direction significantly influences biomechanical responses during landings.
  • These biomechanical strategies may be valuable for developing LE neuromuscular control and injury prevention programs.
