Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess improvements in fecal incontinence, obstructive defecation, and bowel/urinary symptoms.

  • A cohort of 58 female patients undergoing LVMR from 2011-2015 were surveyed.
  • Pre- and post-operative symptoms were measured using Wexner Fecal Incontinence (WFI), Obstructive Defecation Syndrome (ODS), and Birmingham Bowel and Urinary Symptom (BBUS) scores.

Main Results:

  • Significant overall improvement was observed across WFI, ODS, and BBUS scores (p < 0.001).
  • No perioperative complications or conversions to open surgery were reported.
  • Three recurrences occurred in patients who had prior prolapse surgery.

Conclusions:

  • LVMR demonstrates promising functional outcomes for rectal prolapse treatment.
  • Careful patient selection and meticulous surgical technique are crucial for optimal results.
