A pulse is a short burst of radio waves distributed over a range of frequencies that simultaneously excites all the nuclei in the sample. Upon passing a radio frequency pulse along the x-axis, the nuclei absorb energy corresponding to their Larmor frequencies and achieve resonance. This shifts the net magnetization vector from the z-axis toward the transverse plane. Summary

Increased GPIIb/IIIa levels after atrial fibrillation ablation correlate with recurrence risk. This marker, associated with platelet aggregation, may indicate post-procedure myocardial injury and predict outcomes.

Background:

  • Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia impacting quality of life and increasing thromboembolism risk.
  • Patients with AF often exhibit hypercoagulation, potentially worsening prognosis.
  • Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GPIIb/IIIa) is a key fibrinogen receptor involved in platelet aggregation and can serve as a hemagglutination marker.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze changes in GPIIb/IIIa levels following radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for AF.
  • To investigate the relationship between GPIIb/IIIa levels and AF recurrence after RFA.

Main Methods:

  • Enrolled 80 AF patients undergoing RFA and 40 healthy controls.
  • Measured GPIIb/IIIa via ELISA; assessed hs-cTnT, FPG, HDL, LDL, TC, TG via electrochemical luminescence.
  • Recorded BMI, smoking index, and age.

Main Results:

  • The recurrence group showed elevated GPIIb/IIIa, hs-cTnT, FPG, LDL, TC, and TG, with decreased HDL compared to the non-recurrence group (p < 0.05).
  • GPIIb/IIIa positively correlated with hs-cTnT, FPG, LDL, TC, TG, BMI, and smoking index, and negatively with HDL (p < 0.05).
  • Higher GPIIb/IIIa levels were significantly associated with postoperative AF recurrence (p < 0.05).

Conclusions:

  • Elevated GPIIb/IIIa expression post-RFA for AF is linked to myocardial injury.
  • Increased GPIIb/IIIa suggests a heightened risk of postoperative recurrence in AF patients.
