Dasatinib treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia can cause inflammatory reactive polyposis in the colon. Discontinuing dasatinib led to significant polyp improvement, suggesting a causal link.

  • A 51-year-old man on dasatinib presented with a positive fecal occult blood test.
  • Colonoscopy revealed over 100 erythematous, multilobulated polyps with mucoid discharge.
  • Histological analysis showed hyperplastic glands and smooth muscle proliferation.

Findings:

  • The polyposis was attributed to inflammation secondary to dasatinib's adverse effects.
  • Discontinuation of dasatinib resulted in marked improvement of colonic polypoid lesions.
  • Cessation of the drug correlated with the resolution of polyps and mucoid discharge.

Implications:

  • Dasatinib may induce inflammatory reactive polyposis.
  • This case highlights the importance of considering drug-induced gastrointestinal pathology.
  • Monitoring for and managing dasatinib-related colonic polyposis is crucial.
