Summary

Ventral pallium does not contribute transient pyramidal neurons to the neocortex (NCx). Instead, Dbx1-expressing progenitors, located locally in the dorsal pallium, generate these neurons within the NCx.

  • The ventral pallium (VP) was hypothesized to be a source of tangentially migrating neurons, including transient pyramidal neurons, to the NCx.
  • The precise origin, migration, and contribution of VP-derived neurons to the NCx pyramidal population remained unclear.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the spatio-temporal origin of neuronal populations from the ventral pallium (VP) in embryonic mice.
  • To determine if VP contributes tangentially migrating neurons to the neocortex (NCx).
  • To identify the precise origin of Dbx1-derived neurons in the cortex.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized a transposase-mediated in utero electroporation method in embryonic mice (E11-E14).
  • Investigated cell migration trajectories from the lateral corner of the neocortical neuroepithelium, including the VP.
