Guidelines and Strategies for Safe Computer Charting01:18

Guidelines and Strategies for Safe Computer Charting

2.7K
The guidelines and strategies provided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) offer essential principles for ensuring safe and secure computer charting systems in healthcare settings. Let's break down each recommendation:

Short-distance Transport of Resources02:12

Short-distance Transport of Resources

17.7K
Short-distance transport refers to transport that occurs over a distance of just 2-3 cells, crossing the plasma membrane in the process. Small uncharged molecules, such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water, can diffuse across the plasma membrane on their own. In contrast, ions and larger molecules require the assistance of transport proteins due to their charge or size. Transport across membranes also occurs within individual cells, playing a variety of essential roles for the plant as a whole.

Power System Three-Phase Short Circuits

Determining the subtransient fault current in a power system involves representing transformers by their leakage reactances, transmission lines by their equivalent series reactances, and synchronous machines as constant voltage sources behind their subtransient reactances. In this analysis, certain elements are excluded, such as winding resistances, series resistances, shunt admittances, delta-Y phase shifts, armature resistance, saturation, saliency, non-rotating impedance loads, and small...

Atomic Radii and Effective Nuclear Charge

62.1K
The elements in groups of the periodic table exhibit similar chemical behavior. This similarity occurs because the members of a group have the same number and distribution of electrons in their valence shells.

Buffer Effectiveness02:19

Buffer Effectiveness

55.2K
Buffer solutions do not have an unlimited capacity to keep the pH relatively constant . Instead, the ability of a buffer solution to resist changes in pH relies on the presence of appreciable amounts of its conjugate weak acid-base pair. When enough strong acid or base is added to substantially lower the concentration of either member of the buffer pair, the buffering action within the solution is compromised.
The buffer capacity is the amount of acid or base that can be added to a given volume...

Framing Effects03:26

Framing Effects

8.0K
Information is everywhere and its presentation—such as how and when items are presented—can impact our perceptions and decisions surrounding the info. This broad concept umbrellas framing effects—influences that occur due to the way information is framed in its appearance, whether it’s purely the order or the specific wording of a message. Let’s take a look at numerous ways in which two versions of something can objectively say the same thing, yet we respond in...

Summary

Selected patients can safely undergo endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) with a short stay pathway. Monitoring for 6 hours post-operatively is sufficient, leading to significant cost savings and bed day reductions.

Area of Science:

  • Vascular Surgery
  • Health Services Research
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures

Background:

  • Reducing length of stay (LOS) post-surgery can optimize resource utilization.
  • Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has low morbidity, suggesting potential for short-stay interventions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review the safety, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness of a short-stay EVAR pathway.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic literature search of Ovid MEDLINE and Embase databases (1996-2018).
  • Adherence to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.
  • Bias assessment using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale.

Main Results:

  • Five studies including 450 patients showed 75% were discharged same or next day post-EVAR.
  • Complications typically occurred within 3-6 hours; readmission rates were 0-5% with no difference in 30-day readmissions.
  • Early discharge resulted in significant cost savings (£9844 for 1-day LOS vs. £13,360 for 4-day LOS).

Conclusions:

  • Selected patients can safely undergo EVAR on a short-stay pathway.
  • A 6-hour post-operative monitoring period is adequate for low-risk patients.
  • Reducing UK EVAR LOS to 1.5 days could save ~£1.8 million annually and free 4361 bed days.
