Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between statin use and dengue severity in adult patients with hyperlipidemia.
  • To compare the incidence of severe dengue outcomes between statin users and non-users.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective cohort study conducted at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore (2004-2008, 2012-2013).
  • Included adult dengue patients with hyperlipidemia, comparing statin users (n=191) and non-users (n=66).
  • Primary outcomes assessed: dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF)/shock syndrome (DSS) and severe dengue (SD).

Main Results:

  • Findings contrast with some preclinical data, highlighting the need for clinical validation.
