Rural Health Centers
Rural health centers are specialized care facilities in remote locations with very few medical personnel. The primary care providers who run the centers are mostly Registered Nurse Practitioners. Here, emergency treatment is provided to critically ill or injured patients before they are transferred to the closest hospital. Fortunately, due to advancement in technology, many rural healthcare facilities and professionals have easy access to diagnostic and treatment...

Specialized Care Centers and Settings-I

Specialized care settings or centers are situated in convenient locations within the community and offer care to a specific group or population. They consist of daycare facilities, mental health facilities, rural health facilities, educational institutions, industries, shelters for the homeless, and rehabilitation facilities.

The Colonization of Land

Changes in the environment of the early Earth drove the evolution of organisms. As prokaryotic organisms in the oceans began to photosynthesize, they produced oxygen. Eventually, oxygen saturated the oceans and entered the air, resulting in an increase in atmospheric oxygen concentration, known as the oxygen revolution approximately 2.3 billion years ago. Therefore, organisms that could use oxygen for cellular respiration had an advantage. More than 1.5 years ago, eukaryotic cells and...

Nursing Implementation

6.2K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Guidelines for Writing Outcome

3.9K
When developing expected outcomes for a patient care plan, the nurse should adhere to the following recommendations:
Patient outcomes reflect the patient's response to the goal rather than what the nurse aims to achieve. Terminology should be observable and measurable to avoid the reader's interpretation. The desired outcome should be realistic and achievable in the designated care timeframe. Expected outcomes should align with adjunctive therapies. The outcome should enhance care...

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Public Health
  • Medical Education

Background:

  • Colon cancer is a leading cause of cancer death, yet awareness of screening options beyond colonoscopy remains limited among providers and patients.
  • A knowledge gap exists regarding alternative colon cancer screening methods, impacting clinical practice and patient care.
  • Effective strategies are needed to educate healthcare providers on comprehensive colon cancer screening pathways.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the impact of educational presentations on primary care providers' (PCPs) ordering of colon cancer screening tests.
  • To evaluate the perceived usefulness of educational materials on colon cancer screening pathways among PCPs.
  • To improve colon cancer screening rates in a veteran population through enhanced provider knowledge.

Main Methods:

  • A pilot study utilized a quantitative pretest-post-test design involving 46 primary care providers at a Florida clinic.
  • Two educational presentations focused on the clinical pathway for colon cancer screening options.
  • Screening orders were compared for 3 months pre- and post-intervention, supplemented by a provider survey.

Main Results:

  • A 1-way ANOVA showed no statistically significant difference in screening orders between the two 3-month periods initially.
  • Excluding the lowest-performing month revealed a trend towards significance (p=.087) with 91.3% confidence.
  • Provider surveys indicated high satisfaction, with most agreeing or strongly agreeing on the usefulness of the educational information.

Conclusions:

  • The educational intervention positively influenced PCPs' recommendations for colon cancer screening options.
  • The educational content was perceived as valuable by healthcare providers.
  • Further research is recommended to confirm the effectiveness of such educational strategies on screening utilization in average-risk veterans.
