This study shows that vitrectomy with ILM peeling, laser photocoagulation, and silicone oil is effective for optic disc pit maculopathy, significantly improving vision. The treatment led to sustained visual acuity improvement over four years.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Retinal Surgery
Background:
- Optic disc pit maculopathy is a rare condition causing visual impairment.
- Surgical management remains challenging with varied outcomes.
Observation:
- A 21-year-old male presented with optic disc pit maculopathy and reduced visual acuity (20/200).
- The patient underwent pars plana vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, laser photocoagulation, and silicone oil tamponade.
Findings:
- The retina gradually flattened, and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) improved to 20/60 over 24 months.
- Optical coherence tomography confirmed resolution of subretinal fluid.
- BCVA remained stable at 4 years post-surgery.
Implications:
- Vitrectomy combined with ILM peeling, laser, and silicone oil is a successful treatment for optic disc pit maculopathy.
- Further research is needed to establish standardized treatment protocols for this condition.

Outcomes of Glycolysis

Guidelines for Writing Outcome
Patient outcomes reflect the patient's response to the goal rather than what the nurse aims to achieve. Terminology should be observable and measurable to avoid the reader's interpretation. The desired outcome should be realistic and achievable in the designated care timeframe. Expected outcomes should align with adjunctive therapies. The outcome should enhance care...
