Exercise and Muscle Performance01:27

Exercise and Muscle Performance

2.4K
Exercise induces a range of adaptations in muscle tissue, depending on the type and duration of activity. Such physical training can be broadly categorized into two types: endurance exercises and resistance exercises.
Endurance exercises
Endurance exercises involve running, swimming, or cycling, which require repetitive movements with low force output. When a person engages in endurance exercise, a few noticeable changes occur in their skeletal muscles. For instance, the number of capillaries...

Pathophysiology of Cardiac Performance01:29

Pathophysiology of Cardiac Performance

1.6K
Typical heart performance is influenced by heart rate, rhythm, myocardial contraction, and metabolism or blood flow. The cardiac muscle exhibits distinct electrophysiological features, including pacemaker activity and calcium channel control, which play a vital role in the heart's response to various drugs. The autonomic nervous system, comprising the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches, regulates heart rate. Sympathetic activation increases heart rate, while parasympathetic activation...

Arteries of Lower Limbs01:20

Arteries of Lower Limbs

4.5K
The external iliac artery transitions out of the body cavity, entering the femoral region of the lower leg, and is renamed the femoral artery at the point where it traverses the body wall. This artery is responsible for the distribution of blood to the thigh's deep muscles and the skin's ventral and lateral regions, achieved through several minor branches and the lateral deep femoral artery, which also spawns a lateral circumflex artery. The knee area receives blood from the genicular...

Arteries and Arterioles01:16

Arteries and Arterioles

6.6K
Arteries, the vasculature responsible for transporting blood from the heart, possess robust walls capable of enduring the elevated pressures exerted by the heartbeat. Arteries near the heart are especially thick-walled and enriched with elastic fibers across their three tunics, classifying them as elastic or conducting arteries. These arteries, usually with a diameter exceeding 10 mm, are characterized by their ability to dilate in response to the blood pumped from the heart's ventricles...

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography: Introduction01:11

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography: Introduction

3.5K
High-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC), formerly referred to as High-pressure liquid chromatography, is a powerful technique used to separate, identify, and quantify components in complex mixtures. The term "high pressure" refers to using high pressure to push the liquid mobile phase through the tightly packed columns.
In HPLC, two phases play a critical role in the separation process:

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography: Instrumentation00:57

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography: Instrumentation

3.0K
High-performance liquid chromatography, or HPLC, is an analytical technique that separates liquid samples under high pressures. An HPLC instrument consists of glass bottles for storing solvents called mobile phase reservoirs. HPLC-grade solvents are used to maintain high purity, and the dissolved gases are removed using a degasser, such as a vacuum pumping system or sparging with helium. The solvents are then pumped into the analytical column using a screw-driven syringe or reciprocating pumps.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Developmental Biology
    • Retinal Diseases

    Background:

    • The persistent hyaloid artery is a rare congenital anomaly of the eye.
    • Literature reviews on this condition are scarce, necessitating case experience sharing.
    • Understanding its impact on visual function and surgical complications is crucial.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To present clinical experience with persistent hyaloid artery.
    • To discuss its influence on visual functions.
    • To highlight potential complications during intraocular surgeries.

    Main Methods:

    • Case review of patients with persistent hyaloid artery.
    • Ophthalmoscopic examination to assess retinal changes.
    • Monitoring of visual functions and subjective patient complaints.

    Main Results:

    • Persistent hyaloid artery led to chronic retinal detachment and retinoschisis in observed patients.
    • These findings did not significantly impair visual functions or cause patient complaints.
    • Potential complications like hemoftalmus and retinal vessel occlusion were noted from literature.

    Conclusions:

    • Conservative management with regular follow-up is a viable approach for persistent hyaloid artery.
    • Surgical intervention may be reserved for cases with significant complications or vision loss.
    • Further case reports are valuable for understanding this rare condition.
