Knee Joint01:23

Knee Joint

3.2K
The knee joint is the most complicated joint in the body. It consists of three articulations– two tibiofemoral and one patellofemoral. As is characteristic of synovial joints, the knee joint has a thin articular capsule that partially surrounds this joint cavity. Additionally, several ligaments, muscles, and cartilaginous structures support the movement of the knee.
A total of seven ligaments support the knee joint. The patellar ligament, which is also attached to the quadriceps femoris...

Background:

  • Knee osteotomies are experiencing a resurgence in popularity.
  • Improved understanding of long-term benefits and risks enhances their role in unicompartmental osteoarthritis treatment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To highlight the renewed interest and expanding applications of knee osteotomies.
  • To underscore the critical role of knee alignment control in various knee conditions.

Main Methods:

  • Literature review on knee osteotomies.
  • Analysis of evidence regarding knee alignment in osteoarthritis, instability, and regenerative procedures.

Main Results:

  • Knee osteotomies are increasingly recognized for treating unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis.
  • Evidence supports the crucial role of knee alignment in managing knee instability, meniscal transplantation, and cartilage repair.

Conclusions:

  • Knee osteotomies are vital in modern orthopedic practice for osteoarthritis and other knee pathologies.
  • Precise control of knee alignment is fundamental for successful outcomes in knee surgery.
