Summary

Argon laser iridectomy for angle closure glaucoma can rarely lead to corneal decompensation. Ophthalmologists should discuss this risk and consider prelaser corneal evaluation for high-risk patients.

  • Five eyes across three patients experienced generalized corneal decompensation post-argon laser iridectomy.
  • This complication occurred in eyes with a history of angle closure glaucoma, elevated intraocular pressure, and inflammation.

Findings:

  • Associated factors for corneal decompensation included corneal guttate, diabetes, and multiple high-energy laser treatments.
  • Bullous keratopathy is a potential rare risk following this procedure.
