Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) arising from angiosarcoma: a rare case report

• A 62-year-old male presented with a buccal angiosarcoma.
• The angiosarcoma recurred as an MPNST four months post-excision.
• Metastatic disease to the lung was observed four years later.

• The patient underwent successful surgical excision and radiotherapy for the MPNST.
• A subsequent upper right lobectomy for lung metastasis was performed.
• The patient remains disease-free two years post-lobectomy and six years from initial presentation.

Implications:

• This case supports the theory of neural crest origin for tumors exhibiting divergent differentiation.
• Understanding this differentiation pathway may inform future therapeutic strategies for rare sarcomas.
• Highlights the importance of long-term surveillance for patients with aggressive soft tissue tumors.
