Main Methods:

  • Seventy-four PD patients were evaluated using the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.) and the Temperament and Character Inventory (T.C.I.).
  • Panic symptoms from the M.I.N.I. underwent factor analysis to identify symptom dimensions.
  • Correlation, linear regression, and stepwise regression analyses were conducted to link T.C.I. variables with identified panic symptom factors.

Main Results:

  • Factor analysis yielded three PD symptom dimensions: "Somato-dissociative," "Respiratory," and "Cardiologic."
  • "Self-directedness" and "Cooperativeness" from the T.C.I. significantly correlated with the "Somato-dissociative" factor.
  • "Self-directedness" emerged as the sole significant predictor for the "Somato-dissociative" factor, explaining 18.6% of its variance.

Conclusions:

  • Preliminary findings highlight the significance of personality and temperament assessment in characterizing PD subtypes.
  • Identifying personality traits associated with specific PD subtypes may inform treatment strategies and predict response.
  • Further research is needed to validate these associations and their clinical implications for Panic Disorder management.
