Background:

  • Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) profoundly alters immune function due to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
  • Lymphoid proliferations in AIDS encompass benign lymphadenopathy to malignant lymphomas.
  • Persistent generalized lymphadenopathy (PGL) presents with debilitating symptoms and fluctuating lymph node enlargement.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize the spectrum of lymphoid proliferations in AIDS.
  • To understand the relationship between HIV infection and lymphoproliferative disorders.
  • To evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value of lymph node biopsies in AIDS.

  • Histologic examination of biopsies from lymph nodes, bone marrow, and other affected tissues.
