When two or more atoms come together to form a molecule, their atomic orbitals combine and molecular orbitals of distinct energies result. In a solid, there are a large number of atoms, and therefore a large number of atomic orbitals that may be combined into molecular orbitals. Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the consistency of rubber-based resistance (RBR) band loading patterns across different online distributors.
  • To identify potential variability in resistance output based on band width and manufacturer.

Main Methods:

  • 141 RBR bands from four distributors were tested across six widths.
  • Bands were stretched from resting to twice resting length, with tensile resistance measured.
  • Testing was repeated to ensure intertrial reliability (ICC = 0.93–0.99).

Main Results:

  • Significant differences in mean resistance were found for bands of equal thickness across distributors.
  • Tensile load correlated with band thickness, both as a total load (r = 0.658) and as a percentage (r = -0.386).
