Peripheral Artery Disease III: Interprofessional Care

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is characterized by narrowed arteries that diminish blood flow to the extremities. Effective management of PAD requires an interprofessional approach involving various healthcare professionals. The critical aspects of interprofessional care for PAD patients focus on risk factor modification, drug therapy, exercise therapy, nutrition therapy, critical limb ischemia care, and interventional radiology and surgical procedures. The primary treatment goal for PAD...

Elements Crucial for Effective Psychotherapy

Research has highlighted several critical factors that influence the effectiveness of psychotherapy, such as the therapeutic alliance, the therapist, and the client.
The Therapeutic Alliance
The therapeutic alliance refers to the relationship between the therapist and the client. The alliance strengthens when the therapist and the client engage in a nurturing, supportive, trusting, empathetic, and respectful relationship, improving therapeutic outcomes. Interpersonal Psychotherapy01:25

Interpersonal Psychotherapy

Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is a structured, time-limited therapeutic approach initially developed to treat depression. It integrates key concepts from psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, making it a uniquely eclectic framework. The therapy is rooted in the interpersonal theories of Adolph Meyer and Harry Stack Sullivan, as well as John Bowlby's attachment theory, and focuses on the interplay between interpersonal relationships and emotional well-being.

Factors Influencing Attraction I: Proximity

Proximity plays a fundamental role in shaping interpersonal attraction by increasing opportunities for interaction and fostering familiarity. Research consistently demonstrates that individuals are more likely to form social bonds with those who are physically closer to them, whether in residential settings, workplaces, or educational institutions. This effect is largely driven by the increased frequency of encounters, which facilitates the development of friendships and romantic...

Area of Science:

  • Health Professions Education
  • Interprofessional Practice
  • Physical Therapy

Background:

  • Interprofessional education (IPE) is crucial for collaborative healthcare.
  • IPE enhances clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Understanding student perceptions across different educational settings is vital.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate physical therapy (PT) students' views on chiropractic.
  • To compare attitudes towards chiropractic among PT students in distinct university programs.
  • To assess the impact of interprofessional interaction on PT students' attitudes.

Main Methods:

  • A 74-item electronic survey, including the Chiropractic Attitude Questionnaire (CAQ), was administered to PT students at two universities.
  • University 2 students had interprofessional interaction with chiropractors, unlike University 1 students.
  • Attitudinal differences were analyzed using the CAQ scores.

Main Results:

  • University 1 PT students had a mean CAQ score of 35.92 (SD ± 5.62).
  • University 2 PT students achieved a higher mean CAQ score of 40.67 (SD ± 5.34).
  • A statistically significant difference (P ≤ 0.001) in mean CAQ scores was observed between the two universities.

Conclusions:

  • Interprofessional interaction with chiropractors positively influenced PT students' attitudes.
  • Exposure to chiropractic professionals through IPE may enhance PT students' perceptions of the chiropractic profession.
  • Findings suggest IPE is a valuable strategy for fostering positive interprofessional relationships.
