Lymphoid cells of the liver

Lymphoid cells resident in the liver possess a considerable importance for maintaining the homeostasis in this organ, under conditions for both normal development and response to certain pathological stimuli. This review analyze various fundamental aspects of their physiology, discussing: the types of lymphocytes (granular and agranular) found in the liver and their distribution patterns in the tissue, under both normal and pathological circumstances; the functional characteristics of these cells in vitro; and the factors that control the dynamics of their location in the liver in vivo.
